Step 1:
Game

Length

A good place to start when picking a board game is to think about the amount of time your group wants to spend playing.

Do you want a quick 10 minute game to break the ice at a party?

Maybe you want something more competitive when hanging with friends?

Or could you want a slowly unraveling story for date night?

Each expectation is best served by a different type of game, with the most memorable nights coming from matching games to the people playing them.

Don't be afraid to try out

new games with longer/shorter play-times, exploring the intricacies of a complex economy or diving into the energy and excitement of a real-time game!

So as a quick rule of thumb,

look for games that are

10-30 minutes for parties,

45-60 minutes for hangouts, and

75-90 minutes for multi-play

experiences.
