Step 1:
Game

Type

A good place to start when picking a board game is to think about the types of experiences your group enjoys.

Do you want a loud, interactive game to break the ice at a party?

Maybe you want something more cutthroat and tense when hanging with friends?

Or could you want to work together, setting your own pace on date night?

Each expectation is best served by a different type of game, with the most memorable nights coming from matching games to the people playing them.

Don't be afraid to try out

new game types to find out what each genre has to offer. Like breaking the ice with a party game or working together to solve the crime in time!

So as a quick rule of thumb,

Games with...

Light rules and high energy are great for parties/strangers

Strategy and conflict work better with a group of close friends/enemies

and cooperative games focused on narrative experiences work best for partners/friends who hate fighting.
